Thank you for your interest in becoming a Speaker for TEDxUTSC!

The deadline to apply is SEPTEMBER 30 (MON) by 11.59 PM. If your application is successful, we will get back to you by OCTOBER 2nd, 2013 for the next steps!

If you have any questions, please contact Marah Ayad (Director of Speaker Relations) at [email protected].

What are the stages in the recruitment process and the timeline?

  • An applicant must first fill out the self-nomination form
  • Along with the nomination document, the applicant must submit a 90-second application video via a Youtube link
  • The team will review the application form and video. After reviewing, the top choices will be invited for an audition. Audition dates are OCTOBER 5th (SAT) and 6th (SUN), 2013. Time TBD.

What do I talk about on my 90 second video profile? How should I send it to you guys?

  • In this video, the applicant must introduce themselves, briefly communicate their idea, and give a reason as to why they should be chosen to speak at our Conference. The introduction and idea should be very brief; the applicant’s main focus in this video is to voice why they should be chosen out of everyone else.
  • Please upload your 90-second video profile to Youtube and include the link on the form below (preferred). Ensure the link isn’t set to private (since we will not be able to view the video if it is private).

This video will be kept private and will only be viewed by the members of our Program Development team to determine your suitability.

What are you looking for in an ideal Speaker?

  • Someone who did not speak at a previous TED or TEDx Conference.
  • Someone with an original, legitimate idea and a passion for it.

Are there any restrictions regarding the topics I can talk about?

  • No pseudoscience – must show respect for the science community
  • No selling from the stage / No political agenda / No new age beliefs
  • Free energy, healing, quantum physics are some topics that might raise skepticism in our audience and they should be avoided.
