We had no idea what to expect when we first received our TEDx license. From our early days of careful planning and step backs, we now have a first year we can be proud of. If you remember our conference last year, you may recall our trending topic #TEDxUTSC trending nationally in its very first year, on conference day in February 2013. That’s just one of the few accomplishments we are very proud of achieving in just our first year alone!
Priding ourselves on our three pillars of values – equity, social engagement, and academic cultivation, we were named the “Most Engaging Student Group” by the Principal of UTSC and the Vice Principal of Research. From psychologists to TV hosts, our diverse and talented array of speakers brought praise from faculty, students, and alumni from all three UofT campuses. Engaging a global audience through means of social networking and live streaming, we have broadened our geographical outreach and opened the doors to an international exchange of new insight.
To help you visualize our success in numbers, we have achieved the following after our 2013 conference:
– 77 725 total views of TEDxUTSC talks on YouTube
– 5007 livestreamed the 2013 conference
– 18 countries around the world livestreamed the conference
– 750 Likes on our Facebook page
– 431 followers on Twitter
These are some fantastic achievements, at least in our eyes. Honourably receiving the “Event of the Year” award by UTSC’s student union, we would like to graciously thank the entire student body, speakers, faculty, planning team, and all other personnel involved with the event. As for this year, we want to challenge ourselves, be relentless about our limits or boundaries, and scale new heights that we’ve never been to before. Mark your calendars for February 1st, 2014.
I can’t wait to see more from TEDxUTSC!
