WHAT IS YOUR “X”? – An exclusive contest for our amazing TEDxUTSC enthusiasts!

Posted by | 2014, Contests, Events | No Comments

We love our followers and believe all of you have great, creative minds with the potential to change the world for the better. That’s why we want to see the WORLD THROUGH YOUR EYES with our new contest.

With our new contest, you will have the chance to meet each and every one of our 12 speakers at an exclusive Mix and Mingle event to be held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at UTSC. You will get to meet them before anybody else, and before they are even announced to the public! There will be NO tickets sold for this event – the only way to attend is THROUGH THIS CONTEST!

WHAT IS YOUR “X”? We want to see the world through your eyes and see what your reality is all about. The instructions are simple: Create an “X” any way you want, with any object(s) you can think of, take a photo of the “X”, and submit it to us either through Facebook or Twitter @TEDxUTSC, with a creative caption along with the hashtag #ConvergingRealities. The possibilities and creativity are endless – just make sure it’s appropriate enough and “safe for work”!

To submit through FACEBOOK: Post a Photo by browsing your computer and uploading it to our Facebook page. Type out a 25 word (max) caption for your photo and insert the hashtag #ConvergingRealities to the end of your caption.

To submit through TWITTER: Tweet a photo as you normally would and be sure to tweet it to @TEDxUTSC. Again, type out a short caption for your photo and insert the hashtag #ConvergingRealities to the end of your caption.

The contest will run Monday, November 4 until Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:59pm. The #TEDxUTSC team will pick out the TOP 3 photos with their respective captions. These TOP 3 followers will have the exclusive chance of meeting our speakers BEFORE THEY ARE EVEN REVEALED TO THE PUBLIC! It’s surely an exclusive opportunity you don’t want to miss. Our speakers are also very excited to meet you! It’s all about YOU! Be creative and show us what you’ve got!

Meet and mingle with us, learn more about our 2nd annual Conference scheduled for February 1, 2014, nominate speakers for the upcoming Conference, and make your own sundaes! In addition to a sundae bar, there will be light refreshments served and cognitively-engaging activities. Whether you’ll be going alone or with a group, simply show up to the event and let’s celebrate our Converging Realities!

Our 2013 conference at a glance: A year of exploration and triumph

We had no idea what to expect when we first received our TEDx license. From our early days of careful planning and step backs, we now have a first year we can be proud of. If you remember our conference last year, you may recall our trending topic #TEDxUTSC trending nationally in its very first year, on conference day in February 2013. That’s just one of the few accomplishments we are very proud of achieving in just our first year alone!

Priding ourselves on our three pillars of values – equity, social engagement, and academic cultivation, we were named the “Most Engaging Student Group” by the Principal of UTSC and the Vice Principal of Research. From psychologists to TV hosts, our diverse and talented array of speakers brought praise from faculty, students, and alumni from all three UofT campuses. Engaging a global audience through means of social networking and live streaming, we have broadened our geographical outreach and opened the doors to an international exchange of new insight.
